Arise Then Amplify: Why You Need More Than a Website to Build a Personal Brand

Personal branding starts with character development before websites and logos.
Character First:
You are the foundation of your brand.
Personal branding is so much more than colors and a logo. It really begins way before you hire a graphic designer, build a website, and set up a payment processor. It even begins long before you craft an offer and start to generate leads.
Plain and simple. Your personal brand begins with you.
“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
—M. Ghandi
Real change begins with becoming the very change that you are trying to reproduce in your clients. It starts with you adding value to your own life before you attempt to try and add it to the lives of others. To really have an impact, we need to be a product of our own product. Showing is always better than telling. It’s important to understand that sales and success will not last without a proper foundation.
The foundation of your business is you! Success is stacked on who you are. You are the foundation of your brand. Quite often, we hide behind our brand or our sales and assume that if sales are up, the company is doing well. Your business will only grow as far as your character can keep it. It sounds harsh, but it’s true. You must be a person who keeps their word, firstly to yourself and then to your clients.
It is important to make sure that if you promise something to your clients, you can always deliver. But before you can keep promises to clients, you must be able to keep promises to yourself. When you say you’re going to do something, do you do it?

We have all seen so many successful companies, according to their balance sheet, get involved in some type of scandal or public relations nightmare. In one fleeting moment, all of the success that they had worked so hard for is gone. One bad decision and all of the work is undone.
This is why ensuring that you are working on yourself and your personal development is so important. A brand is only as strong as the character of the founders and leaders. Public success is quite often praised, but we need to look at people’s private successes as well. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What type of person are you?
- How do you deal with others?
- How do you react when someone says something that you don’t like?
- How will you respond to a bad review online?

You Can’t Lead Someone Where You’ve Never Been
Taking your clients to a place that you are familiar with is one of the greatest shortcuts to success. This is the essence of authenticity. This is what we need more of in our business leaders. Someone who is not afraid to take people where they have been and admit when something is new or foreign instead of pretending that they know it all. Pretense is something that you can only keep up for so long. Eventually, it will catch up to you.
In the times we are living in, people are looking for authenticity more than ever. Being authentic will create trust and set you apart as a brand that people want to deal with and keep coming back to.
Put in the Work and You Will See the Results
As a business owner, you cannot afford to neglect the importance of personal development. As you develop and grow in your own journey, it will be reflected in your business. Remember, YOU ARE THE BRAND. Therefore, as you are, so will your brand or business. If you are someone like myself who has had more than one failed business, take a look in the mirror. It has less to do with the niche you are in and more with the growth that needs to happen inside you.
People want to know that they can trust your brand, which means that they need to be able to trust you. So let’s stop trying to cover up the things we need to develop in and let’s face them head on. Growing a personal brand is work, but in the long run, it is worth it. You are the foundation of your brand. Make it strong so it can last long!
