Start Cooking Up the Success You Are Hungry For
Oct 24, 2025
Your plate may be the most powerful lever for personal success.
Change your food, change your life. It's not just fuel - it's a strategy.
During a recent family trip to New Mexico, my wife, Kelly, and I had a brainstorming session about how our mindset impacts our success. I asked her for a culinary analogy and she said, “French toast.” Have you ever made French toast? Making trench toast is a holiday tradition my wife started in our home to celebrate Christmas. There are a lot of people who enjoy this breakfast treat that is created from an item that many would discard or give up on. French toast is made by people who see an opportunity for success. They don’t talk or think about what is possible. They don’t wait or hope for someone to serve them. They take personal responsibility. They step into the kitchen, grab an apron, pick up a spatula, turn up the heat, and start cooking with purpose. Are you serious about leading a team, advancing in your career, or guiding an organization? It’s time to Flip Your Mindset and create results that get noticed and celebrated. Stale Thinking Leads to Stale Results French toast is best made with stale bread. Bread that tends to be a little dry and hard. For many, the old bread is seen as unappealing and inedible. Most will throw it away, discard it and give up on it. This is “Stale Thinking.” The individual looking at the bread is stuck on what can’t be done, because they can’t see the possibilities. Their thinking leads to poor results or no results at all. Have you ever been stuck? Have you been hungry for something, but you don’t know what is possible because of a lack of experience, limited knowledge, doubt, or fear of the unknown? Has this led to you to give up or move on because you couldn’t see the possibilities? Where your mind goes, your body will follow and stale thinking leads to stale results. I believe that to produce the freshest results possible in your career, business, or organization, you have to be “Kitchen Inspired.” Not inspired by the author of this article, named Kitchen. I want you to seek out culinary inspiration. Even if you’ve never cooked before, you are inspired to bring something to life when you step into a Kitchen. You welcome the challenge and get to work. You gain experience, clarity, confidence, and creativity. You’re willing to experiment, take risks, and most importantly, take the actions needed to feed your hunger. I want you to bring this mindset into your personal and professional life. This is what great Chefs do. They inspire you and others with what they cook up in the kitchen.

The Live F.R.E.S.H. Recipe When you cook something, you bring a vision to life. To accomplish this, you need a recipe. Every Chef has a step-by-step plan on how to transform their culinary aspiration into a desired result. A recipe is a call to action. It doesn't cook itself. An individual or group must put in the necessary work required to transform a list of ingredients into their next masterpiece. Simply put, a recipe allows you to go from stale thinking to F.R.E.S.H. Results. F.R.E.S.H. is more than a feel-good acronym. It’s a five-part recipe for success designed to flip your mindset from limited to limitless. Each action step helps you cook up results worth sharing, repeating, and celebrating. This recipe isn’t a one-time thing. It’s a daily lifestyle I encourage you to practice consistently. Don’t think about it, don’t talk about it, live it. And the best way to live it is to not only do this for yourself, but to teach it to others as well. Live F-ocused What is at the top of your mind? Remember, what you focus on (positive or negative) is what our subconscious listens to and puts into action. Focus on what you want. Be very specific about your goals. Write them down. And share them with people who will hold you accountable. Live R-esourceful Put together a “Shopping List of Resources Wanted and Needed.” Brainstorm where, how, and who can help you obtain those resources. The most valuable resource you need to cook up the results you are hungry for may be a conversation away. A.S.K. questions. Always Seek Knowledge. In our digital world, you are one click away from finding and acquiring the resources you need. Live E-nthusiastic If your goal doesn’t excite you, it won’t excite anyone else. Write down why your goals matter to you. (Not just what they are.) Let your passion leak into every meeting, message, and milestone. The emotion behind your goal must outweigh the effort it takes to achieve it. That’s enthusiasm.

Live S-trong Mental strength is the fuel that keeps your oven hot. Tune out the noise. What are you feeding your brain? Audit your environment. Are the people, places, and content you consume in life feeding your fire or putting it out? Create a list of “Taste Testers” to contact —the mentors, colleagues, and accountability partners who challenge you honestly, meet with you regularly, and support you consistently. Live H-onest This is the most important part of the recipe. Honesty isn’t just about telling the truth to others. It’s about being honest with yourself. It is about understanding that every goal takes time and mistakes will be made. Learn from your mistakes. Take responsibility for the results you cook up – good or bad. Ask for help when you need it. Be accountable. Honesty leads to growth. Nothing Is Easy, but Anything Is Possible with the Right Recipe When you Live F.R.E.S.H., you’re not just dreaming about results – you’re cooking them up. You're creating a mindset that sets a consistent standard, empowers, and attracts success. Work to Live the Results you are hungry for, because the world doesn’t need more people talking about what they could do. It needs more people like you and my amazing wife, Kelly, to point out what is possible… just like transforming stale bread into French toast. That’s visual proof of what cooking up the success you are hungry for looks like. Are you ready to toss out stale thinking, so you and the people you work with can cook up the fresh results everyone’s been hungry for?
